If you have a sturdy wheelchair and someone with strong arms to push you, then I'd say yes. I recommend you continue past the first parking area. You’ll get a pretty good view from the road about a half mile further up. If you continue on, the road curves left; there is a second parking area about half mile after the curve. The broad trail from there is definitely smooth enough for a wheel chair and leads to a great overlook about 200 yards up.

We took our six and four year old out there today, January 16, 2012. We loved the experience and the trail brochure was informative and a great learning opportunity for the kids. There was snow on the ground, but trails were definitely still accessible. If you go in the winter, bring jackets, there was a lot of wind! Have fun!

Thanks for your great review and pictures! We went out there today and had a blast. There were patches of snow lying around, but with the temperature being 65F today it felt great.

Thanks again!

My sister and I did this hike in October this year. What an ass-kicker! After the first day (we entered at Wire Pass) we headed down the Buckskin and before reaching the confluence we were hurting. By the next morning all major joints were locking up. I wish I'd brought a soft knee brace- that would've helped. The heavy muck clinging to our shoes weighed several pounds, and constantly jerking legs out of mud and trudging through cold water, quick sand and back into mud. UGH. We did the hike in 3 days, covering 19 miles the last day just so we could get it over with. Blew a popliteal cyst in my knee in 2 places and couldn't do one more day/night.

On the bright side, it's gorgeous. We just didn't care after the first half of the first day!

Rodger, Thanks for the site. I've been hiking Curt Gowdy all summer (my goal to hike every trail before school starts), but now you have given me so many more reasons to hike Medican Bow NF. I hike for exercise and to be outdoors. When I have things to explore, goals to get to I do so much better at getting out a couple of times every week. Thanks for all the new goals. I look forward to more posts about the area. BTW I live just a short distance from Woodhouse and you've given me more reasons to explore the area further! Looks like they will be great falls hikes as there is not much shade.

I don't know of any maps. You really don't need one -- there is only one trail, it meanders through the park from one side to the other.

Is there a good map somewhere? Also, I read that the trail is short. Is there a way to make it a loop and make it longer?
